Suspect in murder of teen still at large
Being charged with violent crimes, such as drug crimes and murder, will land a person in jail for a long time, even if you were indirectly involved or just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, if you have been charged with violent crimes, it is imperative that you have a trusted and well-versed criminal defense lawyer on your side to ensure that you receive a fair trial from a judge and jury of your peers. On Tuesday, Pittsburgh police charged a man from Garfield with shooting and killing a witness who was going to testify against the man’s brother from a different case that took place this past summer. The 22-year-old man is accused of killing a 17-year-old man in Garfield at the Nelson Mandela Peace Park. As of Tuesday evening, the man was not yet in custody. Police believe that the 22-year-old man shot the 17-year-old because the 17-year-old was going to testify against the 22-year-old’s brother. A witness who has not been named told Pittsburgh police that the suspect “…had to the kill the kid…” and that he “just walked into the park and shot him.” The witness claims that the suspect told him that he shot the victim five times, but that he wasn’t sure if he hit him five times. In addition, police say that they were able to review a recorded phone call that took place on 17 July from the current witness, his brother, and the men’s sister. Police say that the phone call has the current suspect telling his brother and sister that he saw the witness at a basketball court, but that he couldn’t “do anything about it” because there were “too many people around.” The suspect is then recorded as saying that he will “take care of the situation.” If you have been charged with violent crimes like murder, gun crimes, and drug crimes, call Pittsburgh criminal defense attorney Gary Gerson for a free consultation at 412-219-6875 today.
