Six people from Uniontown await preliminary hearings for drug charges

Drug charges for possession and attempted distribution of controlled substances can empty a person’s bank account and land them in jail for a long time upon conviction. People who are part of a “drug ring” can also be charged with crimes they didn’t personally commit, but were committed by a partner in crime. And when police bust drug rings, suspects may be treated more harshly than normal because it is assumed they will be distributing illegal drugs on a much larger scale. Police from Uniontown and drug agents from the Attorney General’s Office have arrested six “street-level” dealers on drug charges that arose from arrests that have occurred in the last year. This particular sweep is part of the Pennsylvania-wide fight against illegal narcotics. The six culprits are currently awaiting their preliminary hearings to be had before Uniontown’s District Judge. The six suspects include a 25-year-old man from Uniontown who was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Police arrested him after they watched him sitting in a parked car along Euclid Avenue in April of 2013. He is currently out on $8500 bail and awaiting trial. The second suspect, a 23-year-old man from Uniontown, is being charged with a controlled substance, theft, and other charges after an undercover cop sold him heroin just a few weeks ago. Police also set up two more transactions with the man, but when agents showed up to purchase two bricks of heroin for $200, the man did not return. He is currently in the Fayette County Prison. His bail is set at $25,000. The third suspect, a 33-year-old Uniontown man, has been charged with possession and intent to use drug paraphernalia. This past August, the man was pulled over and police found a knife, a crack pipe, and a plastic bag with white residue that when tested in a lab was shown to be an illegal narcotic. He was also carrying syringes. He is currently awaiting trial in the Fayette County Prison. His bail is set at $5000. The fourth suspect is a 50-year-old man thought to be from Uniontown who was arrested on two counts of possession of a controlled substance and other similar charges last year just before Independence Day when he sold eight small bags of heroin to a C.I. (confidential informant). Police. Six days later, a similar deal was done and that was when the arrest was made. He remains in the Fayette County Prison on $10,000 bail. The fifth suspect is a 21-year-old man from Uniontown who was arrested for possession and other drug charges after police found drug paraphernalia on him and a syringe in this back pocket. His bail has been set at $5000 and he is currently detained at the Fayette County Prison. The last suspect is a 26-year-old woman from Hopwood, PA who charged with two counts of possession and other similar charges after she was arrested two days after Christmas last year. Police say they observed a syringe stuck in the suspect’s hair as she entered her car. After searching her and her vehicle, police found bags containing drug residue and a prescription bottle full of drug paraphernalia. She is in the Fayette County Prison on $7500 bail.
