Pennsylvania woman charged in connection with domestic dispute
Police in Pennsylvania had a warrant out for a 37-year-old woman after a June 12 domestic dispute that allegedly turned violent. The woman is facing domestic violence charges stemming from a claim that she threw a cup of hot bacon grease on her 49-year-old boyfriend. The incident took place in the Lawrence County town of New Castle. Police in Lawrence County say that they learned of the incident from the woman’s boyfriend after he went to Jameson Hospital for treatment. He told officers that the events unfolded around 10 p.m. in the residence that the couple shared on South Mill Street. The boyfriend said that he walked out of the house to sit on the porch after a verbal argument with the woman and that the woman then followed him out of the house and threw a cup containing hot grease over him. The man suffered burns to his face, neck and chest. The man later told reporters that he had ended his relationship with the woman and moved out of the house, but he also said that he had been in contact with her. He said that the woman had agreed to turn herself in at the office of a district justice. Prosecutors must prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt in order to secure a conviction for someone accused of a crime, but this may be a challenge without eyewitness testimony or abundant physical evidence. A criminal defense attorney may seek to have charges reduced or dismissed when the evidence against a client is less than compelling, or he or she may negotiate a plea arrangement. Prosecutors may agree to lower charges in exchange for a guilty plea that allows them to avoid the uncertainty of a trial.
