Pair facing criminal charges for sex crimes in Lancaster
A Pennsylvania man who had taught at a preparatory school in Chester County has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography, according to news reports. Officials say that the 60-year-old former teacher is facing allegations of sex crimes along with another 44-year-old male defendant. The two men were reportedly identified through Internet traces conducted by undercover officers. Both of the defendants in this case are residents of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Agents searched the younger man’s home first, discovering two laptop computers that included child porn in video and image files. A second search at the older man’s house also revealed an external hard drive and a desktop computer that had child pornography stored on them. The younger defendant was arrested on April 17. The former teacher was expected to surrender to authorities. Official reports show that the younger defendant is considered a Megan’s Law offender, so he could face up to 50 years in custody if he is convicted on the child porn charges. News reports have not indicated whether the older man will also be subject to such mandatory sentencing laws. That man has resigned from his faculty position at Devon Preparatory School in Devon, Pennsylvania. It is not clear whether any of the images involved children enrolled at that institution. The older defendant in this case is slated to turn himself in to authorities. In some cases, defendants are allowed to take extra time to get their personal affairs in order, which can also spare them the humiliation of being formally arrested. Not every defendant is afforded this right, but it can be beneficial for those who are facing serious criminal charges.
