Montour teacher arrested on drug charges
Drug charges like distribution, delivery, and possession of heroin are difficult for a suspect to defend on their own. When a person is on the opposite end of a sting, chances are that officers and investigators have that person dead to rights upon arrest. And police today will use whatever means necessary to make an arrest, even that means bending the rules themselves a bit. If you have been arrested on drug charges, it is a certainty that you will need an experienced criminal defense attorney to be your advocate in court. A teacher from Montour High School was arrested on drug charges earlier this week. The man, who rented a home from Robinson Township Police Chief Dale Vietmeier was a special education teacher at Montour. According to police, the 44-year-old man would keep a coffee can packed with heroin outside of the home he shared with his dad and a roommate. The suspect had lived there for at least fifteen months before his arrest. When asked about the suspect, Police Chief Vietmeier simply said that he paid his rent on time and was a “reliable school teacher.” Police were able to collect evidence for their arrest by using a confidential informant (CI). The drug agents made two buys from the suspect in December, totaling $350. According to authorities, the suspect exchanged text messages with the Cis in order to arrange the purchases, telling the CI that he could find the agreed upon amount of heroin wrapped up in a paper towel in a coffee next to a wheelbarrow in the front yard. The CI then put $200 in the coffee can and left. On one other occasion, the suspect placed the heroin in a plastic bag in a garbage can. The CI would then place the heroin under the floor mat of the suspect’s 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo. In total, the suspect is charged with five felonies, including one count of criminal use of a communication facility, two counts of possession with intent to deliver, and two counts of delivery. The suspect is currently on paid suspension from Montour High School at least until his preliminary hearing, according to the district solicitor who says the suspension is standard after these types of occurrences. It is not believed that the suspect sold heroin on school property or to students. He is currently awaiting his preliminary hearing on $5000 bail at the Allegheny County Jail. The hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday at 10 a.m. If you have been arrested on drug charges or simply have questions about your options after a drug charges arrest, please call Pittsburgh criminal defense attorney Gary Gerson for a free initial consultation at 412-219-6875 today.
