Man who killed little girl had prior arrests
More information is unfolding in the case of the 20-year-old Millvale man who drove drunk and killed a 6-year-old Shaler girl as her, her mom, and her sister walked home from a playdate on Saturday night. Currently, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office is working with police in Shaler to figure out how the underage man obtained the alcohol he told police he consumed before the accident that killed the girl. The 20-year-old says he lost control of his 2004 Ford Mustang on Locust Ridge Drive Saturday night, striking a mailbox before hitting the little girl and her mother, according to a criminal complaint. The mother and her two daughters were leaving a play date. The little girl died hours later. The other daughter was not injured. The man told police that he had ten beers and smoked marijuana before the crash. He told them he went around a bend too fast and that he was “was driving like a stupid idiot.” A spokesperson from the DA’s office said, “Our office is working with the Shaler Police Department as the investigation continues into this death, and that work will include exploring how this defendant was able to access alcohol while being underage.” The man is charged with homicide and aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, and several other counts. A spokesperson from the Shaler Police Department said, “The investigation is ongoing with a serious case like this…The district attorney has been consulted from the time it occurred and we are in discussion with them daily.” As of Tuesday, there was no attorney was listed for the man in question. However, it is now known that they young man was cited three times since 2013 for purchasing, possessing, or consuming alcohol as a minor, according to court records. Last year, a summary charge was dismissed. In the other cases, it is shown that he pleaded guilty to lesser offenses.
