Last Wednesday, police filed charges against nine kids relating to the fight that broke out on Kennywood’s opening day. A statement from the police department’s website reports that police officers filed unspecified summary and misdemeanor charges against the nine juveniles. The kids were not named because of their ages. The investigation is ongoing. There were at least twenty-four departments that responded to Kennywood Park’s emergency call on 2 May after reports of teenagers fighting and causing havoc throughout the park. Police spent hours looking at surveillance video from Kennywood Park security and several surrounding businesses. They also viewed mobile phone images and video and social media outlets in an effort to find suspects. A spokesperson from Kennywood says technology indeed led to the nine suspects’ arrests. The department is continuing to work with Kennywood Park management to monitor social media for warnings of past and future disturbances; they have also established an official substation for police on the park grounds to reduce these types of occurrences.
