How drunk is your county?
Pennsylvania is widely regarded as a blue-collar state, especially here in Western PA. We are seen by the rest of the country as a state full of people who work hard and sometimes party hard. Pennsylvania is also one of the strictest states when it comes to drinking laws and DUI laws.
A recent study done by County Health Rankings and Roadmaps has determined the fourteen counties here in PA where residents drink the most. The results will likely surprise you as Philadelphia and Allegheny Counties did not make the list.
The list is broken down into two statistics: adults who report excessive drinking and bars per ten thousand people. After compiling the information, this is what researchers discovered.
- Western PA’s Somerset County comes in at fourteen with 20% of adults admitting to excessive drinking and 4.78 bars per every ten thousand residents.
- Another Southwestern PA county, Greene County, comes in at thirteen with 20% of adults admitting to excessive drinking and 5.47 bars per every ten thousand residents.
