Criminal defense for murder suspects
At The Law Offices of Gary Gerson, we take the phrase “innocent until proven guilty” very serious. People who are accused of violent crimes such as murder, weapons charges, and assault have the same right to representation as anyone else. If we are able to help people who have been wrongly convicted or who have been presented as sole perpetrators when they were in fact an accomplice, it makes my job as a criminal defense lawyer in Pittsburgh all the more worth it. This week, another trial ended for a Baldwin man who has twice been accused of murder. The federal weapons charges against the 32-year-old Baldwin man ended when jurors said that they were deadlocked on whether or not to convict the man. The judge empathized with the jury, telling them their indecision is not unusual, but also urged them to continue their deliberation until they came to a unanimous verdict. The judge eventually declared a mistrial when jurors came to her, explaining there was no way they could agree on a verdict. The suspect in question is charged with firearm possession and stolen firearm possession. Police say they found a handgun and magazine with live ammunition from two other guns during a warranted search of the man’s home more than a year ago in April of 2014. The number of jurors for or against the guilty verdict wasn’t revealed. As of now, no decision has been made about whether or not to retry the man. This is not the man’s first run-in with the law. Two separate Allegheny County juries acquitted the man of homicide charges in 1999 and 2000. A federal jury later convicted him of using a firearm in connection with drug trafficking during one of those deaths, but a court of appeals overturned the conviction and his prison sentence.
