Criminal defense for 3rd degree murder

A man from Fayette County who stabbed and killed his cousin outside of the Goal Post bar in Fairchance, PA bar will serve eight to sixteen years in a state penitentiary. The 24-year-old man apologized to the judge before his 3rd degree homicide sentencing for the murder of his 21-year-old cousin. He told the judge, “It was an accident. I didn’t mean for this to happen. It was chaotic.” In November, a jury returned the guilty verdict for the stabbing, which happened on 22 February 2014. According to police, the man stabbed his cousin in the parking lot of the bar after things got out of hand during a birthday party. The man originally faced a max sentence of twenty to forty years in jail. Family members pleaded with the judge that the stabbing was an accident, telling the judge it wasn’t on purpose and that the young man “doesn’t have it in him” to do something like that. The man had spent time in jail in 2010 after he was arrested for carrying a gun without a license. The other side of the family told the courtroom that it isn’t fair that they won’t be able to see their loved one anymore, but did not have an opinion on sentencing. The judge said that she took the man’s age, a mental health condition, his prior criminal record, and various other factors into consideration when she gave down the sentence Serious crimes, such as murder and federal crimes, will often find the guilty party sitting in jail for a very long time. If you have been accused of such a crime, it is important that you retain experienced legal counsel to look out for your best interests.
