Coach accused of having sex with student contacts her
A 33-year-old former Pine-Richland High School basketball coach has been sent to jail after he made contact with a female student with whom he was accused of having sex. The man was arrested in October for engaging in sexual acts with a minor and corruption of a minor. Sources say the relationship between the man and the student started as innocent interactions, but then escalated to the point that the two began spending more time with one another, having "lunch dates," and eventually engaging in sexual intercourse and other sexual acts, according to court documents. The relationship between the man and the girl began two or three years ago when he was her coach on several basketball teams. The man acknowledged staying alone in hotel rooms with the girl on basketball trips with her teams to locations in Florida, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Dayton. He is accused of having sexual contact with the girl on at least some of the trips, including numerous times during a three-night visit to Philadelphia, according to court documents. Prosecutors say the man called the girl, exchanged text messages, and has written her a letter professing his love for her. He also gave the girl a silver necklace after he was arrested. His bond was then revoked and he was sent to jail after a brief hearing in which he did not testify.
